The results of this year strongly indicates that the struggles present in 2018 are still prevalent and impactful in 2019. This can clearly be seen when looking at the survey results on whether the pharmaceuticals companies believe that they have all of the right tools to conduct seamless, cost effective global clinical trials. Whilst the most common answer is positive, there is still a clear need for further growth and development.

The past 12 months have however seen a significant change in opinion on what is needed for the industry to become more effective. 2018 saw the majority of people wanted to see better country regulations and harmonization, however this year people are looking far more at both improving communication within the team and ensuring efficient forecasting strategy for demand planning. The biggest challenge facing the industry was also an area of significant change over the last year – in 2018 our survey found that the largest challenge was regulations, however 2019 clearly indicates the biggest challenge is forecasting demands for complex pipelines.

While the industry is clearly developing new solutions and strategies, this year’s survey shows that there is still marked room for improvement. With a shift in the biggest challenges for pharmaceutical companies, and a need for greater forecasting and demand planning accuracy this year’s Clinical Trial Supply forum will be bringing together the industry’s leading experts to discuss how they are tackling all of these issues and more!
