ThermoSafe is one of the many packaging vendors that participated at the recent IQPC Cold Chain Global Forum in Chicago. Its temperature assurance packaging solutions are used by many of the leading pharmaceutical, biotech, medical, food service and food processing companies around the globe.

ThermoSafe’s flagship product, Greenbox is a passive packaging system with no moving parts and no requirement for an external power source. The reusable Greenbox leverages organic, non-toxic, and fully biodegradable materials that last for dozens of turns across the cold chain. What makes the Greenbox different from other PCM-based shippers is its advanced phase-change-materials, which leverage vegetable oil, instead of petroleum.

ThermoSafe also offers a unique vacuum insulated panel insulating material that creates a tight seal between the insulating components, to eliminating bulges and improving the overall performance of the package.

When asked about what’s driving business today, ThermoSafe’s Director of Marketing, Stu Krupnick cited the growth of biologics, vaccines and other life sciences products. (See Fierce Pharma’s recent story on how the rise of Biologics is reshaping the top selling drugs in the world.)

These widely-sold products are finding their way into new markets around the globe, and because most of them need to be temperature controlled, it’s not only driving business for companies like ThermoSafe, but also for 3PLs, commercial air carriers and other service providers across the cold chain.

Beyond providing a range of different off-the-shelf packaging options, ThermoSafe’s in-house lab and team of engineers also creates unique packaging solutions that are optimized for specific temperature requirements and shipping durations. Krupnick pointed out how thermal modeling software has changed the game in recent years. "Today, there’s no guessing. If a customer needs a shipper that will maintain a 2-8 degrees-C range for 96 hours, we can model that solution and present multiple designs that address whatever size, weight, and cost requirements they may have."

ThermoSafe is based in Based in Arlington, Heights, Ill. More information is available at www.thermosafe.com.
